The Various Types of Psychotherapy
I treat children, adolescents, adults and couples. I also run groups for adults and couples who, through re-marriage, have created a new family configuration and are facing new challenges in their family dynamic. I use different treatment modalities depending on the needs of my patients. Below are the kinds of work we may embark upon:

Individual Psychoanalysis:

Psychoanalysis is the oldest and most intensive form of talk therapy. It is a modality that offers people an opportunity to explore how their early life and relationships have informed their adult life. We work with dreams, early memories, the unconscious and transference and counter-transference, which are terms we will talk about when we meet. The goal of psychoanalysis is to understand how early experiences and patterns of behavior become ingrained in one's psychological life, and may inhibit one's potential for more fulfillment and happiness. Psychoanalysis usually requires that the frequency of sessions is 2 or 3 times a week, and sometimes more. Please see my page on links to understand more about psychoanalysis, its benefits, and how this form of therapy can be helpful.

Individual Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy:
This is a form of therapy that draws from the theory of traditional psychoanalysis, but requires less frequency. It is very effective and provides an opportunity for patients to work psycho-dynamically but in a way that offers more flexibility.

Marital or Couples Therapy:
This is a form of therapy where couples usually come in together to discuss specific obstacles that have interfered with effective communication and understanding. It is often very effective in resolving short-term problems in a relationship. Sometimes, each partner comes in separately to have a chance to speak more openly and honestly about his or her issues that have been getting in the way of a satisfying relationship.

Short Term Psychotherapy and Conflict Resolution:
The primary goal of this kind of therapy is to target a specific problem that has emerged in a patient's life, and to focus on it. Often, through understanding certain unconscious reasons that an issue is emerging, a person can find relief and develop the skills to go forward in a fulfilling way.

Groups:
I run groups which focus on the following areas:
  •     Blended Families
  •     Effective Parenting
  •     Pregnancy Loss
  •     Mid-Life Issues

Please call me to discuss the times and dates for these groups.
